Assignment 1: Reasons for Writing

Elie Wiesel’s Reasons

Elie Wiesel is a Holocaust survivor who wrote the historical book, Night. He wrote this book because he needs to give some meaning to his survival. He wants to leave behind a legacy of words and memories to prevent history from repeating itself. The Nazis left the Jewish world in ruins. He also needs to show other people the horror of genocide and what it does to a society. Elie Wiesel wrote a book for the youth, so his past does not become their future.
